Hearts go out to Ukraine ❤️
Welcome to this week’s issue of The Baking Sheet!
Before going any further, we would like to send our prayers and thoughts to Ukraine. We have made many friends from Ukraine in the Tezos community and we hope you all are safe and sound.

Back to this week's updates -- The digital dogs have taken over the Tezos network this week. In this week’s issue, we’re going to highlight network metrics, mooncakes and Dogami’s success.
Let’s get into it.
Ecosystem Insights
In case you weren’t aware, we recently added a new writer to the Tezos Commons team - Stu Elmes. You’ve probably heard from him on our weekly TezTalks series, but he shared an article this week on Tezos governance.
I think it’s pretty important to understand how this works especially in light of all the new entrants coming into the Tezos ecosystem for NFTs, so be sure to read it if you haven’t yet. To be succinct, there’s more than just JPEG’s on Tezos and detracting against that knowledge gap is beneficial for everyone.
It also ties into understanding the macro trends within the ecosystem from a metric standpoint. Both of which have been rising month by month with no signs of slowing down.
The above chart shows the impact of cheaper fees, environmentally friendly, and an already established reputation with large names using Tezos-based NFT platforms. Last month, a new ATH was made for contract calls with the total around 50M on mainnet.
Since September 2021, that’s an increase in total contract calls of roughly 120%. In other words, protocol upgrades amalgamated with organic NFT and DeFi interest have encompassed for the vast majority of contract calls on Tezos to date… just since March of last year.
On the NFT front, it’s no secret that Dogami has been the talk of the town for the past week. With over 150k tez in secondary trading volume on just the first day, Dogami has set a new precedent towards a growing belief that more users are needed to support these drops of Dogami’s size. It can be supported today.
Equally as important, the Kukai team recently launched their Mooncakes project. Mooncakes are a fun and great way of exploring the world of Tezos NFTs. Apart from claiming their free Mooncake, users can earn free Mooncake NFTs just simply by being active on Tezos and completing various challenges.
With the growth we’ve seen in terms of network metrics, it will be very exciting to see what the future holds for the Tezos ecosystem. With Tenderbake on the horizon in the latest Tezos upgrade that’s undergoing voting, we’ll keep marching along and never stop evolving.

This Week in Tezos Development
Many of our participants told us that due to the events in eastern Ukraine it is difficult for them to remain calm and concentrate on the hackathon. Tezos Ukraine is a Ukrainian non-profit organisation and we share their concerns and worries.
A successful transition to the Tenderbake consensus mechanism relies
on the Tezos ecosystem making sure the infrastructure is prepared for
the changes. Here is a checklist of the necessary steps.
